Another masterpiece from Charles Mingus, this time in big-band format. It was considered by Mingus himself, by the time it was released, his best work to date.
(1972) Let My Children Hear Music (V0) / download (part1 / part2)
i admire mingus' work from the 50's and early 60's, but don't know anything about his last years. the fact that mingus claims this his best release is questionable, since he announced it with nearly every new record - but well, he continued, both in life and in music ;)
What a coincidence. I had just heard about him earlier today when looking up about Radiohead's Pyramid Song, which is apparently inspired by some of his work.
Not only is this one of Mingus' best albums, but this is one of the best big band albums of all time. Listened to this for years, and never ceases to amaze. Desert-island material: absolutely essential.

PS: BTW, the link to Shellac - Billiardspielerlied seems outdated. Any way to fix it?
