Stars of the Lid

This duo from Austin, Texas, is Kranky Records' alumni, and certainly an exponent of its kind in the 90's. Obviously, ambient music is not a new concept. SOTL is simply good at what they do - texture exploration, oscilating between the ambient music concept of repetition itself (also the impressionist sense of ambience) and the dark-ambient consequent mood variation.

The Ballasted Orchestra is a drone masterpiece; Avec Laudenun is a dark synth lullaby, and The Tired Sound is considered their best work to date, gathering chamber music samples and synth drones.
