Shellac is Steve Albini's most incisive facet; his trebly and cutting edge guitar work, insanely clear production and heavily sarcastic lyrics are Shellac's tradition, being a noisier and minimalistic possibility in the post hardcore spectrum.

Certainly, the brazilian hardcore scene is prolific in several styles in its genre. I have chosen to focus on these three bands, Are You God?, Carahter and Constrito, without ideological pretensions; these are simply great examples to ilustrate a panorama.
The "O Espelho de Carne" EP from São Paulo natives Are You God? is one of the best releases in the brazilian grindcore scene, by 2+2=5 Records. The self-proclaimed and self-explainable freestyle deathgrind genre perfectly reveals the band's good humor, proved with unusual concert performances, sarcastical interviews and the band's name itself (AyG > GAy) indicating a false homossexual tendency announced to the media. This record is surprisingly well recorded and executed comparing to similar brazilian bands; internationally, however, one may compare it to Nasum and Brutal Truth releases.
"O Intenso Desespero Sobre a Decadência Humana" is Carahter's impressive debut, from Liberation Records. With doom metal, death metal and grindcore influences, this Belo Horizonte band shows a strong record, alternating between slow paced and low pitched riffs and typical fast grindcore passages. The vocal layers, distorted bass and dissonance lead to a characteristical ambience in this short but concise album. Most probable band comparations are His Hero is Gone and Mörser.
Finally, Constrito's "Um Fio de Vida no Círculo da Morte", even five years after its release through Liberation, the São Paulo straight-edge band's record still is constantly acclaimed by critics and fans, which has had no official follow-up. The album goes through grind/crust and death metal influences; songs such as Umundií, Permissividade, Diáspora, Ciclo de Purificação and Amerikkka para Todos maketh this record strong and memorable. Nowadays, band members express sludge metal tastes through the L'Enfer project, with long, progressive, sometimes clean and effectful passages (differing from the original band's dried out sonority), besides some other oldschool hardcore and metal moments.

A cena hardcore brasileira certamente é rica em diversos estilos dentro do gênero. Escolhi enfocar nestas três bandas, Are You God?, Carahter e Constrito, sem pretensão ideológica; são simplesmente grandes exemplos para ilustrar um panorama.

Finalmente, "Um Fio de Vida no Círculo da Morte", mesmo após cinco anos de seu lançamento pela Liberation, o disco da banda straight-edge paulista Constrito ainda é constantemente aclamado por público e crítica, o qual não teve seqüência oficial. É um disco com influências que perpassam o grind/crust e o death metal: Umundií, Permissividade, Diáspora, Ciclo de Purificação, Amerikkka para Todos, enfim, quase todas as longas faixas fazem desse disco um trabalho forte e memorável. Atualmente, membros da banda expressam seus gostos por sludge metal no projeto L'Enfer, com passagens longas e progressivas, algumas vezes limpas e com camadas de efeitos (diferentemente do som seco da banda de origem) e outras com momentos de hardcore e metal oldschool.
Subpop's forgotten treasure, Codeine is a standout in its proto slowcore sonority. With their 1990 debut album, one would consider the band as its style predecessor; even the so called fathers of slowcore Galaxie 500 were not as innovative as Codeine, since they are one of the few bands not recreating a down tempo late-career Velvet Underground with a shoegazer attitude.
1990 Frigid Stars is their sludgy, slow-paced flow of dissonant guitar fuzz and sharp bass lines debut album: D, Gravel Bed, Second Chance and Cigarrete Machine are simply breath taking. Initially touring with David Grubbs' Bastro, the latter Gastr del Sol's frontman ended up playing piano and producing their 1992 album Barely Real, and playing guitar on the follow-up The White Birch - an undisputable masterpiece.

These months off were due to my pc's dc-power plug complete dilaceration. I've still no proper internet connection, I'm receiving signal from some neighbour not demanding a password for his wi-fi connection. since it's unstable, full album uploading will be difficult; I'll try to figure out a way of solving this, but it's definitely an easier issue than earning money for repairing.
Fursaxa shows much of who is Tara Burke. It is evident in her relationship with music her sense of devotion, and of a reverie world probably within her since childhood. There is a relation to mythical figures, but Fursaxa's music transcends possible banalizations, since other artists using elements of the Nature can easily fall into cheesy considerations.
Philadelphia (USA) native, she is a long time friend of Bardo Pond members (hard to tell who has influenced who, but elements such as psychedelia, ambience and repetition are present in both). Her solo presentations have led her to great aliances: Thurston Moore has released her music through Ecstatic Peace; Makoto Kawabata has produced and engineered her Mandrake album; Glenn Donaldson has invited her to participate in the great Jewelled Antler Library.
Two standout albums are Madrigal in Duos and Lepidoptera. The first is more sparse and experimental - the unadorned use of organ and feedback are foundation to repetitive acoustic guitar patterns and remarkable voice melodies. The latter is her biggest production, the album which has effectively shown her to the world. Her voice in Lepidoptera is magnificent, and demonstrates the greatness Tara Burke has silently achieved.

Fursaxa diz muito sobre quem é Tara Burke. Transparece na sua relação com a música um sentimento de devoção, e de um mundo de devaneio muito provavelmente trazido consigo desde a infância. Pode-se dizer que há uma relação com figuras míticas, porém sua música transcende banalizações a partir de gêneros que podem utilizar-se de elementos da Natureza assim como Tara o faz no Fursaxa.
Nativa da Philadelphia, EUA, Tara é amiga dos membros do Bardo Pond (impossível dizer quem influenciou quem, mas elementos em comum como psicodelia, ambiencia e repetição estão em ambos), com quem costuma tocar de tempo em tempo. Suas apresentações sozinha renderam-lhe a atenção de grandes nomes da música experimental, como Thurston Moore - quem a levou para a Ecstatic Peace - e Makoto Kawabata, conseqüente produtor do seu álbum Mandrake. Outra notável aliança foi com Glenn Donaldson do coletivo Jewelled Antler, quem a convidou a lançar um de seus trabalhos para a grandiosa Jewelled Antler Library.
Merecem destaque seus discos Madrigal in Duos e Lepidoptera. O primeiro é mais esparso e experimental; o uso simples de órgão e de microfonia dão base a padrões repetitivos de violão e melodias de voz marcantes. O último é a sua mais trabalhada produção até hoje, e é o disco que a fez entrar no mercado fonográfico de uma forma mais presente. Sua voz, em Lepidoptera, está mais trabalhada do que nunca, demonstrando a grandiosidade que Tara Burke já atingiu, mesmo que silenciosamente.
